NEW YORK CITY, NY – The Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks Show lit up the skies over New York City. Known as the biggest Independence Day celebration in the country, it attracted millions of people both in-person and through live broadcasts.
This year’s fireworks were launched from several barges on the Hudson River for the first time in 10 years. The main launch area was from West 14th Street to West 34th Street in Manhattan. This setup allowed great views from different parts of New York City, and parts of New Jersey.

I watched the fireworks from Hudson Yards, near The Vessel. Although The Vessel has been closed for a couple of years, the general area around it provided a fantastic spot with a nice view of the water and fireworks. For guests who purchased tickets in advance, there were multiple viewing locations. Pier 57 was one of those locations which is right on the water where the live broadcast was taking place, and The “Edge,” a famous sky deck in New York City, offered both indoor and outdoor spaces to watch the fireworks, and offered an open bar from 8 PM to 10 PM.
The show started at around 9:25 PM and was perfectly timed with a special music soundtrack, making the experience even more amazing. Before the fireworks began, some of the biggest music stars performed, adding to the excitement. For those who couldn’t be there in person, the event was shown live on NBC and Peacock starting at 8 PM.
The Macy’s fireworks show first happened in 1958 and has changed a lot over the years. It was originally held over the East River, but since 2012, it has been on the Hudson River, which is a favorite spot for viewers.
Planning this huge fireworks show is a big job. Macy’s organizers start planning a year ahead to make sure each show is better than the last. They work hard to bring new and exciting features every year.
The 2024 Macy’s 4th of July Fireworks Show was a vibrant celebration of America’s independence. It brought people together in awe and festivity, whether they watched from prime locations like Hudson Yards or through live broadcasts. The show highlighted the artistry and spectacle that make it a beloved tradition.
